Birthmarks can be really embarrassing if they’re in an easily visible spot. Many attempt to hide them, but some have come to embrace their birthmarks are a part of what makes them unique. Cassandra Naud’s story will inspire you to embrace what you have.
Society’s expectations of beauty are typically based off of our base instincts as humans. As babies, we react best to people who have symmetrical faces. Of course as the saying goes, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”, beauty is inherently subjective. You should always be yourself, especially if it makes you unique. This is a lesson that one young lady is hoping to show the world.
After being born with hypertrichosis, a condition that causes excessive hair growth on certain parts of her body, Cassandra Naud has faced some tough challenges in her life. Doctors offered to remove the birthmark on Cassandra’s face when she was a newborn. The downside was that there was a chance for a large scar to be left in its place. Her parents decided against it, fearing a scar would be just as bad as a birthmark.
Due to her unique birthmark, she suffered bullying during her school years. Cruel children often teased and stared at her. Cassandra stood strong and let the bullying slide off her. And after 22 years, she couldn’t be happier that her parents didn’t remove her birthmark! She has come to love it.
“My birthmark makes me unique and memorable. It’s who I am and I don’t feel like it has ever held me back.”
She has even found success as a professional dancer, dancing in front of crowds. Cassandra admits to having a few initial struggles, as she experienced a few rude comments that encouraged her to remove the birthmark and even an agent telling her to photoshop her birthmark out.
Still, Cassandra stuck it out and has proven that her birthmark is a part of her. She is even making quite a name for herself on social media. On her Instagram, she posts pictures of herself, showing the world how proud she is to be unique and different. She now has nearly 40,000 followers on her Instagram.
